Of Purple

WRITTEN BY SHEILA LAM

Of Purple

Calm tones of blue

And fiery red

A mix of two

I am both

A constant state of waning

Of confidence and stability

Of passion and rage

Of Indigo

And Carmine

Blended ferociously

These days

Because of you

You were kind the night we met

With humour and dancing

Hours passed

The morning came

We left together

You felt familiar

Comfortable

I tried to ignore it

Months passed

You were mine then

You were gone a lot

But it didn't matter

We spoke incessantly

I felt you near

Always

Things changed over time

Slowly and subtly

“He's a very good bad boy”

She said

She knows you well

You spoke with the others

The way you spoke with me

It changed everything

Embalmed with Carmine

Under my Indigo facade

But that was your prerogative

We were meant

To be nothing

I knew that

But things changed over time

Slowly and subtly

And I felt things

I wasn't meant to

There's no resolution

Not really.

No tears

No music

No wistful goodbyes

Time just passes

And you let go

Calm tones of blue

And fiery red

A mix of two

I am both

A constant state of waning

Of purple
